New seasons of rugby at Whitemans Green, Cuckfield

Haywards Heath RFC has a long-standing tradition of developing players of all ages and supporting their journey whether with Heath’s seniors, colts, juniors, minis or girls squads. Heath is built on the values of inclusivity, accessibility and fun with a strong family and community spirit – so whatever you are looking for in playing the game of rugby, Heath can provide the environment for players of all ages and abilities to flourish and develop skills, fitness and a passion for the sport.

The Club is recognised as supporting the largest mini and junior squads in Sussex and offering players of all ages - boys from U6 to U16 and girls from U6 to U11 in mixed squads and a dedicated girls’ squad at both U12 and U14 – the opportunity to learn new skills and make new friends in an inclusive and supportive environment. New supporters and rugby lovers also welcome - first seniors’ home league match of the season takes place on Saturday 16th September.

The Club is currently running pre-season training for seniors (18+) and colts (U17 & U18) in the evenings throughout the summer, meaning now is a great time to come along, meet other players and the coaching team and find out what playing at Haywards Heath RFC is all about. The new season for U6 to U11 (minis) starts on Sunday 3rd September. There is also a one day girls’ only rugby camp for ages 11 to 16 on Thursday 31st August free to all – to register visit www.hhrfc.co.uk or email rugby@hhrfc.co.uk.

Awaiting planning permission from MSDC, the HHRFC Clubhouse Project is working towards building a state of the art multi sport facility at Whitemans Green providing improved facilities for the benefit of rugby, other sports and the wider community. The Club has already raised over £1.9m itself and is exploring all available options to make sure the remaining funding gap of just over £300k can be filled and the project breaks ground this year. And with the Rugby World Cup on the horizon in September (all England matches will be shown LIVE on the big screen in the Clubhouse, it’s a great time to get involved on and off the pitch – meet like-minded people, have fun and make new friends.

The vision of creating a new multi sports pavilion at Whitemans Green - with assistance from Fairfax and its education foundation Fairfax Building Young Futures - is becoming reality for Haywards Heath Rugby Club – as these realistic visuals indicate.

One glance at how the MSDC approved plans will look once built gives an idea of the transformative nature of these proposals resulting in expanded parking facilities, which will make the nearby roads safer for all Cuckfield residents to navigate. The project will also provide massively improved sport and social facilities, allowing for expansion of the Club and development of girls and ladies rugby and a 21st century community facility for use by other clubs of all kinds.

If anyone is in a position to help HHRFC accelerate efforts to build the new Clubhouse or contribute in any way to its fundraising activities, perhaps by donating an auction prize, please contact: rugby@hhrfc.co.uk.

Ross Chisholm and Jim Taylor make sure pre-season sessions are fun for everyone

With summer upon us, Haywards Heath Rugby Club is keen to help maintain the health and fitness of all generations of rugby players.

The senior squad returned to pre-season training earlier this month and is training every Tuesday and Thursday from 7.30pm to 9pm. The Clubhouse bar is going to be open every Thursday evening from 25 July 2019 and everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the summer sunshine on the decking and watch Ross Chisholm and Jim Taylor put the squad through their paces with their short, sharp and fun methods to raise fitness levels before the new season kicks off in September.

For all juniors, there are two rugby camps at Whitemans Green this summer – a Quins Junior Camp from 5-7 August and the return of the popular NZ Experience Kiwi Camp from 19-23 August 2019. Sign up is open to members and non-members alike from ages 6 to 16 - visit www.hhrfc.co.uk for more information and to reserve your place. In addition, the older juniors at Heath have returned to their own pre-season training regime with the Under 15s and 16s training every Thursday from 7.30pm - keeping the boys active and united over the summer months. New members of all ages and abilities are welcome at any time - email rugby@hhrfc.co.uk for more information.

Heath has also been busy off the pitch and with planning permission confirmed for the new HHRFC Clubhouse, all efforts are focused on raising the funds to make it happen to benefit all children and adults in the Mid Sussex area. On Saturday 31 August 2019 there is a Festival of Rugby at Whitemans Green when the Heath U16s are playing a 4-way tournament from 11.30am against Horsham RFC and two touring sides from Leicestershire, the Heath Colts then taking on Farnham Colts at 12noon before Heath 1st XV and RAMS test themselves against Farnham RFC, last year’s runners-up in LSW2 at 3pm. The Clubhouse Bar will be open all day, with a BBQ and other refreshments – everyone is invited to come along and join a fun day before the season starts in earnest.
